Zome sizes
Currently the Zome Kit is available in Large size with two smaller sizes coming mid next year.
Small
50cm diameter and 45cm high.
Suitable for children to build on their own and can be used as lamp shade, sculpture or anything you can think of.
Medium
1.5 m diameter and 1.4 m high.
Suitable for children’s cubby, a chicken run or a hideout space in areas where you can’t fit the large zome.
Large
3m diameter and 2.8m high.
Available in two version indoor and outdoor. Suitable for shade structure, chill out space or glamping tent, outside and inside.

Eco-friendly
The strips are made from bamboo, one of the fastest growing plants in the world. Bamboo is considered a highly renewable and sustainable resource with some species growing as much as 90cm in a day.
Bamboo is high in tensile strength making it perfect for this structure, allowing the strips to slightly bend without breaking.
Easy to build
The modular nature and simple design of the zome means it is very easy to build without special tools or construction experience. If you like playing with lego or meccano sets you will love building the zome. It will take approximately 2-3hrs for 2-4 people to build the structure.
You can build the zome with the included bamboo strips and bolts and tighten the bolts with a spanner. Additionally, you will need a step stool, ladder or a platform so you can reach the top.

The bamboo strips are coated with a UV resistant finish to provide it longevity. If the structure is used outside the it is recommended the strips be coated with a marine grade varnish every 6-12 months depending on the level of exposure. This will ensure it will last for a long time.

Zome building kit includes 350 precision made bamboo strips, 126 bolts and nuts and an installation guide describing the process to install the Zome. The bamboo strips are coded with markings, making it easy to identify which strips go where as per the installation guide.

FAQ’s
What is a Zome?
You are reading it right, this is not a spelling mistake. Zome as a geometry is not very well known and it can mean a series of things.
The term Zome comes from zonohedron + dome, and was coined sometime in 1970 by Steve Durkee. A zonohedron is a form which can fill a given space seamless, the most popular zonohedron is the cube.
We like the geometry and shape and find it quite a functional yet visually powerful form so decided to use it to make our structures. You can find more information about the Zome geometry on the Simply Differently website.
What is the difference between a Dome and a Zome?
Both Dome and Zome are different geometries based on similar principles. Geodesic dome is probably the most common lightweight structures in the world.
From a spatial perspective we feel the zome is much more efficient then a dome. For example a 3m diameter geodesic dome will have a height of 1.5m vs a 3m diameter Zome has a height of approximately 2.8m providing greater headroom and more usable space. 
Can I install the Zome outdoors?
Yes, you can. The Zome is made of bamboo strips that are coated with UV resistant coating and comes with galvanised bolts so it is fine for outdoor use as long as regular maintenance is carried out.
What sort of maintenance is required for the Zome?
If installed indoor there is minimal to no maintenance required. If it is installed outdoors and doesn’t have any covering the UV radiation and rain will affect the bamboo strips over time like any natural material. A regular coat of marine varnish or similar external coating will be required every 8-12 months depending on local conditions to ensure the Zome lasts a long time.
How many people does it take to install a Zome?
A Zome can be installed with a minimum of two people. Installing the structure is part of the fun and more people the merrier it is. You can easily program the installation with as many as 10 people and it will be super quick.
How long will it take to make the Zome?
The installation time will really depend on the number of people involved and how much fun you want to have making it. It can take two adults and two children, approximately two hours to assemble. This would be less if there are more people involved and you can plan the build effectively.
Can I dismantle the Zome?
Yes, it is very easy to dismantle the zome and store it away for later use.
Can I climb on the Zome?
The zome is designed for being a shade structure or framework. It can take the normal wind load or light attachments, but it is not designed for climbing or taking load of people. Hence, it is advisable for children or adults to not climb on it.
Do you ship overseas?
Yes, we do ship overseas. You can calculate the shipping cost during checkout by adding the product to your cart and adding your full address to calculate shipping.
Please note that you are responsible for any local import duties, taxes and fees charged at the destination.
We ship the zome kits using UPS, DHL or similar courier and delivery is normally around a week to major destinations, although exact timing will vary depending on the country and exact location.
We are in the process of setting up distributors in USA and Europe which is reduce shipping cost significantly.
Do you sell covers for the zome?
Not right now. We encourage you to make your own cover based on your specific need. We provide you with a template for cover sizes to speed up the process. If that is not the path you wish to go, we can offer custom covers.
Can I buy additional bamboo strips if they break?
Yes, the modular nature of the design means its very easy to replace broken or damaged strips. Please send us an email if you your request.
