Shelter of Kindness
ShelterWe were invited by Paul from Trinity+1 to participate in an International design competition for a Cyclone Shelter in Bangladesh.
The main design idea is to design a building that used natural and local materials and that was built by the people. The building is designed to be open and interact with the surrounding during day-to-day operation and can be locked down in case of an emergency to provide shelter. The building is raised on stilts with the top floor made out of bamboo and ground floor made up of concrete filled metal barrels. The design is based on cyclone proof design principles to ensure maximum strength during a cyclone situation.
The entry was shortlisted for Stage 2 of the competition.
