Turkey Dome
Garden Structure | ShelterContinuing with the theme of building small shelters at Permaculture Sydney Institute, we were asked to come up with a design to house the turkeys in the permaculture garden. Being noisy creatures we decided that something built out of earth bags would be more appropriate for the turkeys and also showcase different construction techniques.
The earthbag structure was built in the side of a hill using jute sandbags and local soil. The benefit with earthbag construction is that it is more forgiving when it comes to the type of soil mix as long as there is some clay and gravel in the soil. The structure was built over a few weekends and rendered with a natural lime plaster.
